Dhofar 1251

Chondrite (LL6)

I found the Dhofar 1251 meteorite on 4 March, 2005. I found a fragmented stone weighing a total of 1,905 grams while hunting meteorites in the Omani desert. This meteorite has been classified as an LL6, shock level 3, weathering level 5. As you can see, it is a very old meteorite with little metal. It does show very nice brecciation though.

       

Unfortunately, the in-situ photos of this find were corrupted and I could not save them.  This happens in the field sometimes, with cameras being subjected to sand and temperature/humidity changes.
