MurrayThe Murray meteorite fell on September 20, 1950 at 0135 am in Calloway County, Kentucky. A fireball was seen and explosions heard. A shower of fragments fell 9 miles east of Murray. A total of ~12 kilograms of pieces were recovered, mostly by one man. This meteorite is a very rare CM2 carbonaceous chondrite. Murray is extremely interesting scientifically, it has more amino and organic acids than have been found in Murchison. Most of the meteorite is locked up in the Smithsonian collection and little has ever made it to private hands. I recently exchanged this material out of the US National Museum Collection (Smithsonian). All pieces are from USNM #1769, and include a photocopy of the collection label and copy of the trade paperwork to prove provenance. It was very difficult for me to acquire this material, they do not want to exchange it since it is so valuable to preserve for scientific study.
