NWA 2910This meteorite is classified as an Achondrite, Eucrite, (AEUC). A single stone weighing only 41 grams was bought from Erfoud in June, 2005. We thought this might be a lunar meteorite, so w paid dearly for it. It turned out to be a very rare extremely shock-melted eucrite. You can clearly see the black melt area, then the normal white brecciated section. In between the two is a virtual river of melt which is clearly defined. This is a one of a kind meteorite! I have seen hundreds of impact-melt meteorites, but this one shows the melt better than most since it is an achondrite. With only 41 grams total known weight, and the curation material, we have almost nothing left! What you see here is it. I tried to polish a couple of slices and they shattered, so there are some small pieces but they can't show the beauty of this meteorite, only the complete slices do that well. Only 41 grams of this meteorite was known! After cutting that left barely 32 grams, then 8.2 grams went for classification, so there is little for collectors. |
