Tamdakht

Specimen weight: 3,421 grams

Fragment with fusion crust, regmglypts,  slickensides, and imbedded soil and rock from impact.

The Tamdakht H5 chondrite fell in the Atlas mountains near Ouarzazate, Morocco on December 20, 2008 at ~11:37 pm. A massive fireball tore across the sky and was visible all over Morocco. Hundreds of stones fell across the foothills of the Atlas mountains and were immediately found by local Berber people who live in the area. The strewnfield is very large, over 20 km long and so far, hundreds of kilos of meteorite have been recovered. I purchased a large amount of Tamdakht stones from the finders in Morocco.

Backside view of same piece, showing matrix full of chondrules and sulphides.

I also decided to keep these two smaller stones weighing 123.6 grams on the left and 66.3 grams on the right. Both stones complete with only minor chips.
